In a nutshell, I am Madison.
That’s Madi — M-A-D-I — Madison, without the S-O-N. I’ve never understood why people who are named Madison insist on going by Maddie or Maddy; why add the extra letters when Madi works just fine? (Besides, as far as I’m concerned, Madi is far superior to Maddie.)

In a nutshell, I am eighteen years old.
I’m an adult, technically, but I still have a lot of growing up to do. They used to say your brain was fully formed at eighteen — now that’s been pushed back to twenty-four. But, whatever, I’m off to Auburn University this fall, where I’ll be away from all my friends and all my family; I’ll finally get that chance to grow up.

In a nutshell, I am a writer.
I’d like to think I am, anyway. I write short stories, long stories, poems, songs, whatever. I write anything and everything I can. And, if I might take a moment to toot my own horn, I can write a beast of an essay when I put my mind to it. Research papers are another matter entirely.

In a nutshell, I am indefinable.
I can say who I am and what I like to do — but that doesn’t define me. What defines me is the love of my family and the support of my friends. I would be nothing today without everything they have and have not given me.

In a nutshell, this blog is, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, a place for me to vent.

I’ll rant and rave about my daily life; I’ll update it when I should be doing something else (like doing music theory homework, writing research papers, or practicing my clarinet); I’ll thoroughly and utterly bore you if you don’t enjoy reading that sort of thing.

I’ll bitch and moan about everything that pisses me off — from friends to assignments to parents to those people that are related to me so distantly we could legally marry — but occasionally I’ll have some gem of wisdom. I’d like to think so, any way.

Mainly, I’ll write this blog for the sake of writing; I’ll write it because I’ll need some kind of outlet.

If you choose to read it, enjoy; if not, then maybe I’ll see you around in some deeper, darker corner of the Internet. And until then, adieu.
